Overview
The Overlord is a researcher from an era that predates the Calamity, who continues his work in the Heavenly Keep that hovers above High Lagaard. He seeks a way to achieve immortality, and through this, has developed an artifact known as the Holy Grail, but his research has led to creations of monsters such as the Hellion and Scylla. The party confronts him at his throne room, declining his offer of immortality, and battles him to claim the Holy Grail to save the Duke of High Lagaard.
In Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold: The Fafnir Knight the Overlord instead focuses his research on elimination of the Yggdrasil Core sealed away in Ginnungagap, having taken an unaging mechanical body to see his work to completion. Upon seeing the Fafnir Knight best the monsters of the labyrinth and even the Juggernaut, the Overlord takes interest in assimilating the Fafnir Knight in combination with the Holy Grail he developed to try and destroy the Yggdrasil Core himself. Upon his defeat, the Overlord relinquishes the Holy Grail, confident that the Story Mode party has what it takes to bring an end to the Calamity before it can breach containment.
