Attack behavior:
- At 100-76% HP, takes no action.
- 75% HP or lower:
- Randomly picks between summoning Penguins, using Withstand, or idling. Favors summoning Penguins.
- Summons three Penguins if alone, two Penguins if one is already in the fight.
- Will not summon more Penguin reinforcements until it has spent at least one turn idling.
- If it has already summoned reinforcements, randomly picks between Violent Grudge (if nobody is cursed), Withstand, or idling.
- At 50% HP, guaranteed to use Withstand.
- As HP falls below 50% and 25% thresholds, will begin favoring using its skills more over idling.
Ignore inflicting ailments or binds as the King Penguin is immune to all of them. Instead, put your all into dealing damage. Use its idling turns to prepare all your buffs and unleash everything on it in a massive burst.
Level Grinding
Once this fight is unlocked, you can use it to rapidly level any new recruits or party members strongly falling behind. First, at Inver Port, save your game upon selecting the Sea Quest, then reset the game. Continue to select the Sea Quest with Kirikaze as an assistant, assigning the one party member you want to level up. Ensure that party member is not using the Sovereign's Royal Veil or it will mess up the random number generator. It matters not which Limit Skill you assign.
All this is scaled to Expert difficulty. Execute this sequence of actions precisely:
- Defend for the first three turns. (Turn 1-3)
- Kirikaze will clone; both will heal; front clone will clone again while the other uses Shadow Bind. Note how much damage was done with Shadow Bind.
- Escape (and fail) for the next three turns. (Turn 4-6)
- Both front clones heal while back clone clones; Kirikaze will clone and heal before unleashing a 5-man Drawing Slice (2419, 2420, 2419, and 2420 damage); Kirikaze will defend as King Penguin Withstands.
- Defend for the next three turns. (Turn 7-9)
- Kirikaze will keep defending until King Penguin explodes for 1 damage on turn 8; then clones again on turn 9.
- Escape (and fail) for the next five turns. (Turn 10-14)
- Clones heal; front splits while back normal attacks; back clone defends while front heals as King Penguin Withstands; all clones defend until 1-damage Explode on turn 14.
- Defend on turn 15.
- One clone splits, while one does a normal attack and the other Shadow Bind.
- Depending on what happened on turn 3:
- If Shadow Bind did 220 damage: Escape
- If Shadow Bind did 218 damage: Defend
- When executed successfully, Kirikaze clones and does one more 5-man Drawing Slice that kills the King Penguin.
